Kwale County: Kwale County Governor Salim Mvurya has summoned the top management of mining firm Base Titanium Company to appear in his office on Monday without fail following a picket demonstration by workers.
Mvurya said he had asked the firm’s officials to carry with them all their employee records dating back to when they first arrived in Kwale.
This is to enable him audit the records after workers from some Kwale tribes demonstrated on Friday claiming that migrant tribes had been favoured when it came to employment.
“In view of the issues of employment at Base Titanium, priority should be given to residents of Kwale.

“I have summoned the top management to come to my office with their employment data. I will issue a statement afterwards,” said the governor in a telephone interview with The Standard.
Tens of workers from the Base Titanium mining site demonstrated over what they termed uncertainty regarding their job security after their gate access passes were confiscated by the management.
The workers, who had been contracted by Redis Civicon to construct the mining plant, accused the management of reneging on their contract that ends on August 31.
