Nakuru County: Markets within Nakuru County are set to benefit from a sewerage system aimed at reducing waste disposal within these facilities.

The plan is meant to improve the hygienic conditions of the markets and their surroundings to eliminate health risks to the thousands of residents who eke out a living in such places.

Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said the plan would enable his government come up with checks and balances in their environmental conservation efforts.

Mbugua stressed the need for conserving the environment through planting trees and collection of waste.

Recycle waste

He made the remarks when he presided over a clean-up exercise at Kabazi Centre, Kabazi market and Kabazi Health Centre where he planted a tree.

To make their work easier, the county government is set to purchase a Sh25 million bulldozer which will be used in the waste management in all the dumping sites within the county.

At the same time, the governor said his government was planning to establish a factory that would recycle waste collected within the county.

“The factory would also create job opportunities for thousands of jobless youths,” he said.

He asked elected leaders to strike a better working relationship with members of security forces.
