Harambee Stars forward Boniface Muchiri Promoted to Corporal following CHAN brilliance

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and Ulinzi Stars captain Boniface Muchiri has been elevated from Senior Private to Corporal, in recognition of his standout performances for the Harambee Stars during the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The promotion was conferred on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, by Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, with the new rank formally presented by Major General Luka Kutto, General Officer Commanding Eastern Command.

General Kahariri praised Muchiri’s discipline, resilience, and excellence, both in uniform and on the football pitch.

"We are very grateful for your commitment, hard work, and excellent performance while serving Kenya and, by extension, the KDF. We wish you success in future assignments,” Kahariri said.

Muchiri’s promotion follows his instrumental role in Kenya’s CHAN journey, where he provided two key assists: one against Zambia to secure victory and another in the quarter-final match against Madagascar, helping propel the Harambee Stars to their maiden quarter-final appearance in the tournament.

The recognition also fulfilled a public plea by Harambee Stars captain Abud Omar, who repeatedly urged Commander-in-Chief President William Ruto to reward Muchiri’s dual contributions to sport and military service, a call that was honored following the campaign.

Born in Busia County, Muchiri's football journey began at the grassroots level with Amagoro FC, and he later had spells at Nzoia Sugar, Sony Sugar, and Tusker FC, where he lifted the KPL title and the Shield Cup, before joining Ulinzi Stars in late 2021.

Since then, he has emerged as a key figure in both the club and national team, earning admiration for his discipline, versatility, and leadership.
