The Kenyan Premier League enters its fourth round this weekend, but already a number of coaches are feeling the heat.
Last week, Sony Sugar head coach Leonard Odipo threw in the towel after his side lost 1-0 at home to Ushuru. He rescinded his decision less than 24 hours later.
Tusker head coach Paul Nkata is also under pressure. The brewers have had two bad seasons despite investing heavily in the playing unit and will accept nothing short of the KPL title this season.
Sources at Ruaraka reveal that the Ugandan is living on borrowed time after his side lost to Ulinzi Stars 2-0 two weeks ago and he may have just bought himself some time at the club after last weekend’s laboured win over Nairobi City Stars in Machakos.
Nkata’s head will therefore be on the chopping board once again as the side travel to Muhoroni today.
In Muhoroni Youth, the brewers face a very consistent side that has been picking wins home and away. For Nkata, it is a familiar fixture as he spent the last three months of last season at Muhoroni Youth and should therefore have a formula to unlock them.
One area that Tusker will need to work on is scoring. The team has been doing badly infront of goal with no proven striker after they sold Jesse Were to Zesco United of Zambia. Humphrey Mieno has been trying to step up from midfield but needs to do more if Tusker are to challenge for the title as new signing Michael Khamati seems unreliable.
Goalkeper David Okello did well against City Stars last weekend and should therefore start against Muhoroni Youth. The home side have had their best start ever thanks to one player Wycliffe Ochomo.
The former Ulinzi Stars and Gor Mahia forward has scored in the last two matches and is currently one of the leading scorers with three goals.
He is one man the Tusker back line will want to watch keenly. Elsewhere, league leaders Mathare United take on Kakamega Homeboyz at Kasarani today.
United, the 2008 champions are enjoying a good run since re-hiring title-winning coach Francis Kimanzi and will be keen not to let the league’s new comers to spoil their party
Last weekend, the slum boys showed what they are capable of by thrashing Sofapaka 5-2 and will be hoping Obadiah Ndege retains his form to score more goals.
Homeboyz have had mixed results so far and look likely candidates for relegation even before the second leg.
