The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has shortlisted three of its top directors to succeed outgoing Chief Executive Officer Gabriel Lengoiboni.

Teacher Management Director Nancy Macharia, Administration Services Director Simon Kavisi and Finance Director Cheptumo Ayebei are three of the four listed candidates.

Ewaso Nyiro South Development Authority (Ensda) Managing Director Charles Talengo is the fourth candidate.

Out of the 72 who applied for the position, only the four have been shortlisted. A total of 55 male candidates asked to be considered for the top post. Only 18 female candidates expressed interest in the position.

And of the four shortlisted candidates, only one is a woman.

Names missing

Senior county directors of education for the Education ministry and TSC are missing from the list.

The Director for Tertiary and Secondary Education at the Ministry of Education, Robert Masese, has also missed out on the slot.

Shortlisted candidates have been asked to attend a boardroom interview on June 23. And anyone with reservations about any of the four selected candidates have been asked to submit written affidavits.

"Any member of the public who might have concerns as to the suitability or otherwise of any of the shortlisted candidates is advised to submit their concerns in a sworn affidavit to the chairperson, TSC, on or before June 22, 2015," read the communication from the commission.

The development comes amid reports that Mr Lengoiboni is set to leave the commission by end of the month.

Section 16(1) of the TSC Act 2012 says: "The appointment of the Secretary to the Commission under Article 250(12) of the Constitution shall be through a competitive recruitment process."
