Main suspect arrested by police

Police have arrested a student suspected to be behind the killing of seven at Lokichogio School in Turkana County.

The suspect who is a South Sudanese was arrested in Kakuma while fleeing towards the Kakuma refugee camp.

Records at the school indicate that the suspect is a former student who was expelled over an indiscipline case.

Lokichogio AIC Secondary School was attacked Saturday morning at around 4am by suspected bandits believed to be from South Sudan. About six students have lost their lives with one security guard.

Reports also indicate that some girls were raped during the attack. Those with minor injuries are receiving treatment at Lopiding Hospital in Lokichiogio while others with serious injuries have been referred to Lodwar Referal Hospital.

Turkana County Governor Josphat Nanok has condemned the incident saying the attack was meted on innocent students.

“It is a sad day for Turkana County. The security arms should follow the matter to ascertain the true motive and bring those behind it to book," he said.

County officials on the ground have liaised with Amref who are expected to airlift the four critically injured to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the attack has not been established but police have launched investigations.
