The contractor overseeing the construction of Witeithie and Mang’u footbridges over the Thika superhighway has given assurance that the projects will be complete by end of November.
Interways Construction Works conducted a tour of the projects yesterday with chief executive James Mugo saying the projects are 70 per cent complete.
The steel materials for erecting the bridges arrived a month ago from China and are being assembled on site. They will be bolted within two weeks and placed on the concrete pillars.
“We are now entering the homestretch with these projects and we will be done by end of November,” Mugo said.

He revealed that the firm had been paid Sh130 million for the two bridges against a contract sum of Sh430 million.
The works include two-kilometre service roads, bus stops, public toilets, service lanes, sewer connections and lighting.
Interways attributed delays in clearing the steel parts at the Port of Mombasa to stringent new rules by the Kenya Revenue Authority.
Mugo said the hoisting of the steel structures will not lead to closure of the highway. Another firm, Multiscope Consulting, is supervising the projects.
The footbridges are expected to improve safety for pedestrians on the Thika superhighway, especially at Witeithie, where many accidents on the road have been reported.
