More than 300 foreigners were arrested in Nairobi for being in the country illegally.

Majority of those arrested were Ethiopians and Somali nationals.

The 346 were arrested in Eastleigh, Huruma, Pangani and South C areas and later taken to the police Pavilion in South C where they were being interrogated yesterday.

Forty-three were Ethiopians who were flushed from a house in Mlango Kubwa.

The suspects had just arrived in the house when Immigration and police officers raided following a tip off.

They were taken to court yesterday but could not plead because the charge sheet was defective.

Earlier on, police had stormed a wedding ceremony and arrested three suspected top commanders of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF).

Among those who were arrested was the wedding’s best man who was flushed from the ceremony as he sat next to the bride.

Police said the three are wanted in Ethiopia for questioning on various undisclosed crimes. The officers who arrested the men added they posed a security threat to the country, though they did not elaborate.

The wedding was being held in Huruma on Saturday night.

We could not establish the ranks of the OLF men but police insisted they were top commanders.

Appear in court

Nairobi Area PPO Anthony Kibuchi said the men would this morning appear in court before it is decided if they would be deported or not.

"These men were here illegally and we are continuing with operations on the aliens who pose a threat to the country," he said.

Police said the 346 suspects arrested on Sunday and Saturday were being interrogated to establish if they had any link to crimes committed in the city.
