The Automated Teller Machine is the most important technology for many Kenyans, despite the presence of newer and more efficient methods of making payments.
According to a new survey, almost half the Kenyans surveyed said the ATM is the one technology that has the largest impact on their lives.
The survey conducted by Consumer Insight Africa could be a pointer to the fact that despite the growth of mobile money, debit and credit cards, and other payment methods, people are still highly dependent on cash.
Answering the question, “Which technology, service or device has the most impact on your life?”, 49 per cent of the respondents said it was the ATM.

The survey also showed the growing appeal of social media among Kenyans, with 27 per cent of the respondents saying it had the most impact on their lives.
Seventeen per cent of those surveyed said the mobile phone and mobile money transfer were essential, with pay TV and the Internet were also mentioned as important technologies.
