Coffee farmers in North and South Rift regions have benefitted from a Sh45 million milling plant constructed by Coffee Management Services (CMS) in Eldoret.

A director with Coffee Research Foundation (CRF), JK Kimemia, lauded CMS for putting up the facility, a move he said would help reduce transportation costs.

Speaking in Kitale during a one-day media workshop organised by CRF, Kimemia urged farmers in Trans-Nzoia and Kapenguria counties to embrace coffee farming to reap from the lucrative coffee market.

He announced that CRF had distributed 7.6 million seedlings to farmers in Trans-Nzoia County in the past two years. Kimemia said the foundation had launched a programme to provide support and distribute seedlings to farmers in the county.

During the workshop whose theme was ‘Impact of climate change on coffee,’ Kimemia said the foundation had partnered with individuals and societies to promote coffee farming in the region, which has enough land and good soils to produce high quality coffee
