Renowned governance expert Peter Kagwanja has asked President William Ruto to consider getting opposition leader Raila Odinga a job.
Speaking during an interview with KTN News on Wednesday, Kagwanja said a job would limit Odinga from holding nationwide protests.
"Raila will be there and he will always take us to the streets. After every election since President Moi's tenure, he has been demanding something," said Kagwanja.
"So what is difficult for Ruto to go to the African Union or the United Nations and ask them to give Raila something? The country needs some peace."
Additionally, Kagwanja said issues between Odinga and Ruto do not need mediation from leaders outside the country.
According to him, the two leaders and former President Uhuru Kenyatta should set aside their egos and air out their issues for the betterment of the country.
"Heads of State don't just fly to other countries because they heard there are conflicts. Kenya has not reached a level where we need external mediation. We have not reached the levels where crises are spinning out of hand as witnessed in 2007," he said.
"The President only needs to sit with Odinga and Kenyatta and talk about the future of this country because the issues we have revolve around the three of them. There is nothing preventing them from talking, they are just raising the political temperatures for no reason."
Prof Peter Kagwanja: The principle of calming the nation by dealing with the loser is an issue we have to deal with, and particularly Raila Odinga. What is difficult about President Ruto going to the AU or UN to get Raila something so that the country can have peace?... pic.twitter.com/UKpxEOijJi

His remarks come at a time Kenya's opposition, led by Raila Odinga, is holding weekly protests, demanding that the Kenya Kwanza government lower the cost of living.
Last week, the Azimio la Umoja coalition led a three-day nationwide anti-government protest. During the demonstrations, at least six people lost their lives and others were seriously injured.
It is such incidents that Kagwanja says are causing alarm in the country for no reason.
