Most domestic airlines have reported full bookings during the festive season.

The management of Silverstone Air, whose destinations include Mombasa, Kisumu, Malindi, Ukunda, Kisumu and Lodwar, said they have added another fleet to meet the rising demand.

The airline’s Reservation Manager Maureen Bittah said many Kenyans have, over the years, taken up air travel for vacation. She said full bookings start in early December.

“Our flights are fully booked. We’ve had to add more fleets. People have been travelling for holiday over the past one month,” she told The Standard.

Compared to 2017, she described this year as having been the busiest for them.

“It has been a good month for us, compared to last year, when we had elections. This time, everybody is smiling,” said Ms Bittah.

She added: "All our destinations are popular with holiday-makers but the coastal region and Kisumu are the most visited."

Before Christmas, the company had offers ranging from Sh4,500 to Sh13,000 one way.

“We have not increased our prices much. That’s why more Kenyans can travel by air,” she said.

The Madaraka Express, the Standard Gauge Railway commuter train, had announced it would add more coaches to meet increased demand during the festive season.

Kenya Railways Corporation had reported full bookings for most days up to yesterday.

The train charges Sh1,000 for economy class coaches and Sh3,000 on first class.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Sunday, travelled to Mombasa for holiday.
