Former Raila Odinga’s spokesman Salim Lone
on October 30 released a statement on his Facebook page ‘NASA statement on the
pseudo-election's results,’ after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries
Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati declared President Uhuru Kenyatta
winner of the repeat presidential election that was held on October 26.
“In fact, what this pseudo-election
confirmed was the formal declaration of Uhuru as a dictator determined to hold
onto power at all costs. There is so little national support for Uhuru now that
even as the sole candidate, he needed massive rigging to hide the fact that an
abysmally low number of Kenyans turned out to vote – a total of 2.5 million or
less than 20 per cent of registered voters, as KIEMS had clearly showed. This
is a massive show of no confidence in Uhuru Kenyatta and if he had any dignity
he would step aside and allow a free, fair and credible election – and finally
earn the respect of the people,” read part of the statement.
The statement that was also posted on the NASA coalition Facebook and twitter page, said that ‘this is the fourth election in a row which has been stolen from the people’.
However, all eyes are now on National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga to read a detailed statement. Raila Odinga had earlier said that they will never recognize Uhuru as president if he won, stating that the October 26 election was a sham since voters did not have confidence in President Uhuru’s government. He also went ahead and said that only 3.5 million voted according to the KIEMS Kit, which is about 20 per cent of the total registered voters.
“According to the KIEMS Kit which were
biometrically used to identify the registered voters, only 3.5 million people
participated in the voting yesterday (October 26); that is just about 20 per
cent of the total registered voters. That shows basically that the people don’t
have confidence, it is a vote of no confidence in the government of President
Kenyatta. And if I were him, he would actually resign or step aside because the
people have shown that they do not have confidence,” said Raila during an interview
with CNN.
