  1. She joined politics as her sister’s successor:

Joyce Laboso was not a politician until the death of her younger sister, Lorna Laboso. Joyce replaced Lorna who died in a plane crash in June 10 2010 as the (MP) Member of Parliament for Sotik Constituency.

 

  1. She was a lecturer at Egerton University:

Before joining politics, Dr. Joyce’s immediate proffesion was as a lecturer. She worked as a French Lecturer at the Egerton University in the Language and Linguistics department until her sister’s death.

 

  1. She is married to a Luo:

She is married to Edwin Abonyo, a former manager with Finlays. Her marriage to a Luo guy has been used often by her rivals who accuse her of being more inclined to Luo Nyanza as opposed to Kipsigis.

 

  1. Legendary:

Her development record as the Member of Parliament for Sotik was impressive. Construction of Sotik-Borabu highway remains a key project that bolstered her profile. The construction of Lorna Laboso memorial school, an ultra-modern girls school is another. It is therefore little wonder that clinched the county’s top job in the August elections.

Together with her husband Edwin Abonyo, they have three sons. The first born is in Australia , the second born studied piloting in South Africa while their last born sat for his KCSE at Kabarak High in 2016.
