The who's who of the acting world descended on the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday for the biggest night in the showbiz calendar.

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone's musical La La Land swept the board at the 89th Academy Awards hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

The magical movie, which earned 14 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Song and Actor and Actress nods for Ryan and Emma, took home six gongs in the end.

Casey Affleck scooped the Best Actor award for his role by Manchester In The Sea, while Emma took home the Best Actress gong.

After an epic mix up which saw Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway read out La La Land as Best Picture, it turned out the top award actually went to coming of age drama Moonlight.
