Justice Philip Tunoi

Kalenjin Council of Elders want the Judiciary to suspend investigation against Justice Philip Tunoi to allow a traditional ceremony to resolve the matter.

The council's Keiyo chapter in Uasin Gishu said a traditional oathing-cum-cursing ceremony known in Kalenjin as 'muuma' will unearth the truth about the bribery allegations.

The elders said they have no faith in the judicial process initiated by Chief Justice Willy Mutunga to probe allegations against Justice Tunoi.

They believe members of the community have been sacked over graft allegations based on malice and witch-hunt.

Led by Joseph Cherono, they said the exercise is conducted by grey-haired and senior members of the community.

Muuma is meant to solve disputes and the outcome has dire consequences for victims found culpable including death and mental disorder.
