KAJIADO, KENYA: One of the conflicting factions of mailwa Group Ranch has moved to court challenging recent election of officials.
Dissatisfied members led by Leshoko Nkonere (Chairman), Nkaitole Mororo (Vice Chair), and Ntuyoto Marasua have alleged that the Group ranch elections were marred and are seeking a repeat.
But the winning team led by Daniel Kironcha, who was elected Chairman said that they have since been given a certificate of incorporation. He warned their members from incitement that may lead to chaos at the ranch.
The controversial elections was monitored by Kajiado land board, Land adjudication officials, and two officials from the County National Land Commission. National Intelligence Services (NIS) officials, Assistant Commissioner Bissil Division.
“Security was provided adequately and we did a free and fair election. We are surprised even further why poll losers are inciting members against the outcome,” said Kironcha.
“Members should stop rumor mill which a section of contestants have challenged in court. We are surprised that they are in court at the same time inciting people against us,” said Christopher Saigol, who was elected Secretary General.
Shapapa Lempapa and Joshua Sarababi were elected Vice Chair and treasurer respectively.
They accused Hamilton Parsein Chairman of Kajiado land taskforce of spreading propaganda that the Mailwa ranch elections were rigged.
“He was to give the Governor a report of illegally acquired land and if he is meddling in our elections, we suspect he is aiding corruption in the land sector in Kajiado,” said the Group Ranch Chairman Mr Kironcha.
The election of the group ranch was conducted through the Mlolongo criteria. According to the Group Secretary elect Mr Saigol, each member queued behind his or her preferred candidate. It was not secret ballot. All contestants signed a memorandum of understanding that they would accept the outcome of the elections.
It was reported that disgruntled members of the losing group are accusing their counterparts of using force to cling to power.
Soon after the announcement of the election last week, some members protested at how the poll was conducted, saying they were not happy with the results.
