The Opposition has claimed that the Government has been paying MPs to attend prayer rallies for Deputy President William Ruto and co-accused at the International Criminal Court (ICC), Joshua arap Sang.
CORD co-principal Moses Wetang'ula alleged that State money was being misappropriated to fund legislators attending the rallies aimed at seeking divine intervention over the ICC cases.
The Bungoma senator yesterday claimed it was "disheartening to see State money being misused" in the ongoing rallies while the same Government could not pay teachers their September salaries.
"Some of the MPs who attend the prayer rallies are our friends and they tell us that they are being paid to attend the rallies. We are very much aware how they use State money to ferry MPs to the prayer rallies," Wetang'ula alleged.
He said CORD was not against the prayers, adding that it stands with Mr Ruto but maintained that the solemn function had been hijacked by hypocrites.
"It is unfortunate that a solemn event like prayer has been hijacked by hypocrites who want to use it to incite the nation to violence," Wetang'ula said.
The Opposition now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to come out and tell Kenyans how much his Government was spending on the prayer rallies.
"We also call upon the President to realise that the country belongs to all Kenyans and they all deserve equal treatment," he said.
