Makueni, Kenya: A former Cabinet minister in the retired President Moi regime Fredrick Mulinge Kalulu is dead.
According to his daughter Ndunge Kalulu, the former Mbooni MP passed on at the Nairobi hospital on Tuesday night where he had been admitted.
The late Kalulu served as Mbooni MP for three terms rising to the position of an assistant minister in the office of the president.
The father of the departed media icon Nzau Kalulu ventured into politics in the 50s and served as a councillor in the former Masaku County Council before trying his hand in parliamentary politics in 1974.
He made history when he rode on a horse to Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos town to present his papers for the Mbooni Parliamentary seat in 1974.
The charismatic politician also made history by becoming the first parliamentary candidate in Ukambani to campaign using a helicopter which was his campaign symbol.
Ukambani leaders led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka send their messages of condolences to the late Kalulu family and relatives.
Kalonzo eulogized the late Kalulu as a leader who fearless fought for the rights of Mbooni people during the pre-independence days.
Others who condoled with the family of the late Kalulu include Senators Mutula Kilonzo,Johnson Muthama,Mbooni MP Kisoi Munyao,MPs Regina Ndambuki,Rose Museo,Patrick Makau,Katemi Makenga and Daniel Maanzo ,Victor Munyaka and Susan Musyoka among others.
Kisoi described the late Kalulu as a leader whose contribution to the struggle for freedom speaks volume about him.
“The late Kalulu played a significant role in the country’s struggle for independence and did a lot for Mbooni constituency and the country at large during his time as Mbooni legislator”, said the youthful Mbooni MP.
