A family in Nyeri can finally breathe a sigh of relief after they found their daughter who had been missing for two months.
The Standard run a story of her family’s plight on Wednesday May 16 and the girl was found the same day.
Evelyn Njeri went missing after she was sent away from school for allegedly carrying biscuits to school after a school trip.
“I am grateful to God for answering my prayers,” said Mary Wanjiku, Njeri’s mother.
She said she received a call from a stranger who said she had seen a girl matching Njeri’s description in Ruringu estate in Nyeri, the day the story appeared in Underworld, a pullout in The Standard.
quarrelsome mother
Njeri said she was scared of being quarreled by her mother and spent the day she was suspended from school walking around Nyeri town. Later in the evening, a woman bought her some food and offered her a place to sleep.
The woman also bought her a skirt and a top at Gakere evening market. The following morning, still afraid of going home, she headed towards Ruringu.
“I could stay for up to three days without food but I was still scared of going home,” said Njeri.
Her mother is so delighted to find her daughter and has put the reasons of her disappearance behind her.
After finding her daughter, Wanjiku who along with her sister and a friend visited The Standard Group offices to express their gratitude, was pleasantly surprised to find Njeri in Nyeri even after they had been led to believe that she was in either Nairobi or even far away in Malindi.

Njeri now says she will go back to school and promises not to repeat such a mistake admitting that being scolded by her mother would be far better than living as a destitute.
