I support South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s call on Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe to step down or be removed by force.
Calling for Mugabe to be indicted at The Hague for the untold suffering he is causing his people is a noble move and should get the support of all African leaders — as Prime Minister Raila Odinga urged last week.
So moving were Tutu’s words: "He (Mugabe) has destroyed a wonderful country. A country that used to be a bread basket — it has now become a basket case." Mugabe is tainting the image on African leadership in the face of the international community. He is a shame!

I cannot understand why the world is allowing this to happen! Countries have failed to defend human rights. Governments have become beasts looking only after their own interests.
Worse, we close our eyes in order not to watch children and mothers suffer in agony and even die due to human right violations of the Mugabe regime.
Do we have the moral obligation to stand up to humanity, even if it doesn’t belong within our borders? We cannot turn our heads in denial that nothing is happening in Zimbabwe. How do we sleep when we understand our neighbour’s house is being charred down?
It is time to come to the open and join Raila, the President of Botswana and Tutu in condemning Mugabe. He must be forced to leave office. And if need be, an action plan must be marshaled. Politics must not trample principles.
