The Commission of Inquiry into the Post-Election Violence following the December 2007 General Elections - also referred to as CIPEV -† today presented its report to President Mwai Kibaki. The Commission was headed by appellate Judge Philip Waki and two other commissioners Gavin Alistair McFadyen and Pascal K. Kambale. They were mandated to investigate the facts and circumstances related to acts of violence that followed the elections and investigate the actions or omissions of State security agencies during the course of the violence. They were also to recommend measures to prevent future violence and to bring justice to those responsible for the violence and eradicate impunity.
