Kenyan marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge has unveiled a personalised luxury watch weighing just 57 grammes, designed to celebrate his athletics career and Kenyan heritage.
Dubbed Feather, the timepiece was customised by Swiss independent watchmaking company Artisans de Genève in collaboration with the two-time Olympic marathon champion.
The watch features a lightweight Titalum case made from an alloy of titanium and aluminium, reflecting Kipchoge’s pursuit of lightness and precision.
In a post unveiling the timepiece, Artisans de Genève said Kipchoge approached the company to create a watch that would pay tribute to his career and personal history.
“As the first man to break the mythic two-hour barrier in a marathon, Eliud Kipchoge wanted this timepiece to embody a piece of his history,” the company said.
The watchmakers said the pursuit of lightness became central to the customisation process, leading them to use Titalum for the case.
“Throughout our exchanges, the quest for lightness naturally became the guiding thread, leading us to craft the case from Titalum,” the company explained.
Beyond its technical design, Feather also celebrates Kipchoge’s Kenyan roots. The watch incorporates warm colours and elements inspired by the national flag, reflecting his connection to the country he has represented throughout his international career.
“He was also eager to celebrate his roots, the warm colors and flag of Kenya, fundamental inspirations that guided the entire customization process,” Artisans de Genève said.
Kipchoge made history in 2019 when he completed a marathon in 1:59:40 during the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria. He became the first person to cover the marathon distance in under two hours under controlled conditions, although the run was not eligible for an official world record.
