Earlier today, 28 November, four players from Gor Mahia FC were involved in a road accident on their way to training, prompting the club to call off the day’s session altogether.
The players; Austin Odhiambo, Fidel Origa, Joshua Onyango and Felix Oluoch were travelling together in a private car along Outering Road when the accident occurred.
Fortunately, all four sustained only minor injuries, were treated at a nearby hospital, and have since been discharged.
It is reported that the crash was caused by a mechanical failure, reportedly brake malfunction, that caused the vehicle to veer off the road. Luckily, none of the players suffered serious or life-threatening injuries.
“All the four players were treated for minor injuries at a hospital and discharged. They are all fine,” the club gave an update.
In light of the incident, Gor Mahia’s technical bench and leadership agreed to cancel Friday’s training session.
The accident comes at a delicate time for the club, who had been looking forward to ramping up preparations for the upcoming Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards.
Though the derby had been rescheduled earlier due to stadium availability issues, the club had planned to resume intense training this weekend.
On Wednesday, Gor had announced about the postponement of the derby was set for this weekend but it was “postponed due to unavailability of venue; new date to be communicated in the coming days.”
They later gave an update that, “the rescheduled Derby will be played on Sunday, 7th December 2025 at Nyayo Stadium.”
