Cleophas Malala's son, Leon Malala, has publicly criticised activist Kasmuel McOure, accusing him of betraying the Gen Z movement during a live television interview.

Kasmuel rose to prominence during the historic 2024 anti-government protests, where thousands of young Kenyans took to the streets demanding accountability, transparency and better governance.

Through his passionate speeches and outspoken criticism of government policies, he quickly became one of the most recognisable faces of the movement.

Many supporters even dubbed him the "Tom Mboya of the Gen Z generation" because of his eloquence and ability to mobilise young people.

However, during a KTN interview on Wednesday, June 24, Leon Malala openly criticised Kasmuel, claiming he had abandoned the ideals that inspired the youth-led protests.

According to Leon, Kasmuel's decision to work closely with government leaders amounted to a betrayal of the movement's original goals.

"Leon Major Malala is different from Cleophas Wakhungu Malala. I have my ambitions and let me remind you, Kasmuel, you are just a goon in a nice suit," Leon said.

He further alleged that Kasmuel had shifted from championing the interests of young Kenyans and instead aligned himself with the political establishment.

The remarks sparked widespread reactions online, with social media users weighing in on the heated exchange.

One user, Sammy Marley, wrote: "Who remembers Kasmuel once ran more than Usain Bolt? Kumbe ilikuwa njaa."

Kasmuel, however, left the interview midway.

Another user, Naff Junior, wrote: "Few moments later, the eloquent goon became personal and later left the interview."

The confrontation has since fuelled fresh debate on social media, with some Kenyans questioning the credibility of self-proclaimed digital activists and whether they are serving the movement or pursuing personal interests.
