Raila Odinga's longtime bodyguard, Maurice Ogeta, has revealed the level of trust the former Prime Minister placed in him, disclosing that he was consulted during discussions that led to Gor Mahia receiving Sh30 million when the club was grappling with financial difficulties.
Speaking during Gor Mahia's visit to the Odinga family home, Ogeta recalled how Raila often sought his views on matters concerning the club because of his deep attachment to K'Ogalo.
"I think the patron really trusted me with anything to do with Gor Mahia. Many people may not know that when the club was facing challenges, he asked me what amount I thought would be sufficient to help. I believe those who met him at Nairobi Club proposed Sh30 million. He later asked for my opinion, and I supported it because he knew how much Gor Mahia meant to me," Ogeta said.

He added that Raila and Ida Odinga understood his passion for the club, often allowing him to attend matches despite being on duty.

The remarks came as Gor Mahia continued celebrations following their 2025/26 Kenyan Premier League triumph.
A day after lifting the title at a packed Nyayo National Stadium, players, coaches and club officials visited Mama Ida Odinga's Karen residence, carrying the trophies they won during the season.
The visit was meant to honour a wish reportedly made by Raila before his death last year.
According to club chairman Ambrose Rachier, the former patron had expressed concern over the club's declining standards and sought to understand the challenges it was facing.
"Baba asked us why our standards were dropping," Rachier said during the ceremony.
After being informed of the club's financial struggles, Rachier said Raila stepped in with support and challenged the team to reclaim its glory by winning both the ODM Cup and the league title.
"We told him the truth, that we were facing financial difficulties. He gave us a handsome cushion, then looked us in the eye and ordered two things: win the ODM Cup in Mombasa and win the league this season," he said.
Standing before Ida Odinga with the trophies in hand, Rachier declared that the team had fulfilled the mission entrusted to them.
"Mission accomplished. These are the two trophies Baba ordered. We are here to deliver."
Mama Ida welcomed the delegation warmly and assured them that the bond between the Odinga family and Gor Mahia remains strong.
The occasion also saw Raila Odinga Jr address the gathering, saying the invitation was inspired by the warm reception he received from Gor Mahia supporters during the decisive league match at Nyayo Stadium.
"Yesterday, I sat among you at the final match. The way you welcomed me, the love I felt, moved me deeply. I knew right then that I had to invite you here, not as a formality, but as a family celebrating together," he said.
