Senate Speaker Amason Kingi sharply interrupted Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei after the lawmaker celebrated Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League success on the floor of the House.
In a video widely shared online, Cherargei appeared to mix parliamentary business with football excitement as he rose to contribute during proceedings.
While addressing the Speaker, the senator shifted focus to Arsenal’s historic qualification for the UEFA Champions League final, drawing laughter and reactions from fellow lawmakers.
“So, Mr Speaker, I hope these matters can be addressed by the various committees. Mr Speaker, I am happy today that Arsenal yesterday trashed Atletico Madrid and the reality of going to Budapest. Arsenal can win the cup in the final. I support, Mr Speaker,” he said.
Speaker Amason Kingi quickly dismissed the remarks, telling the senator: “Senator for Nandi, you are so irrelevant,” before ordering him to sit down and return to the matter before the House.
The exchange immediately sparked reactions online, especially among football fans, with many amused by Cherargei’s excitement over Arsenal’s European achievement.
Others joked that the senator could not hide his emotions after the North London club secured one of its biggest victories in recent history.
Arsenal F.C. booked their place in the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in 20 years after defeating Atlético Madrid in the semi-final to seal qualification for the showdown in Budapest.
The victory marked a major milestone for manager Mikel Arteta, who has transformed Arsenal into one of Europe’s top-performing sides after several difficult seasons.
The Gunners have impressed throughout the competition with disciplined defending, attacking quality and standout performances from key players including Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard and Declan Rice.
Their qualification has reignited belief among supporters that Arsenal could finally lift Europe’s biggest club trophy for the first time in history.
