'Nimekimbia ata sijabadilisha': Elated Salasya offers to host Gachagua during Western tour [David Gichuru, Standard]

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya recently offered to host former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during his upcoming Western Kenya tour.

In a viral video seen by TNX Africa, the energetic lawmaker approached Gachagua outside Milimani Law Courts as he walked alongside his wife, Dorcas Rigathi, and members of his team.

Dressed in a jungle-green T-shirt and matching trousers, Salasya cheerfully greeted the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader, saying he had rushed straight from South Africa after spotting him on television.

“Umepata nimetoka South Africa nikaskia ati leo nakuona kwa TV. Nimekimbia ata sijabadilisha,” he said, drawing laughter from Gachagua and his entourage.

Gachagua then asked whether he had managed to get home first, prompting Salasya to jokingly reveal he had only arrived the previous night.

“Eeeh! Nimerudi jana usiku,” he replied.

The former Deputy President went on to inquire about his South Africa trip, to which Salasya responded that it had gone well.

The Mumias East MP later brought up Gachagua’s planned Western Kenya visit, insisting he wanted to host him personally.

“Mlisema you are coming to Western. I am going to host you at my place,” he stated.

Gachagua responded by saying official arrangements would be made through DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala.

“Last time, we were with Malala, so we will agree so that it comes to you officially,” Gachagua said.

Salasya humorously insisted he needed that assurance, drawing even more laughter from the small crowd.

“Nilikuwa nimekuja kupata hiyo assurance,” he said.

Gachagua then jokingly reminded the MP that he had been on the opposing side during his impeachment saga.

“You know you were part of this problem kwa sababu mlikataa hii maneno,” he remarked lightly.

However, Salasya quickly responded, “Ukijua vile nilikaa pale,” sparking further laughter before the two leaders exchanged final greetings and went their separate ways.

Sharing photos from the encounter on social media, Salasya captioned one post, “Mwejeje Top notch.”

He also shared the video with the message, “It was nice meeting HE Rigathi Gachagua at Milimani Law Courts to give him support.”

Kenyans online reacted with amusement to the clip. On Instagram, one user, Tezy, wrote, “You can’t hate Salasya ata ujaribu aje,” while another, Maridadi, commented, “Unakuwanga serious but in jokes mode.”
