Popular comedian and content creator Terence Creative’s departure from the Digital Content Creators Association of Kenya (DCCAK) has sparked fresh reactions after the association disputed his account of how he left the organisation.
In a resignation letter addressed to the association’s chairperson and executive committee, Terence announced that his departure from the position of Secretary General would take effect immediately.
The comedian, born Lawrence Macharia, thanked the association for the opportunity to serve, adding that his commitment to empowering creatives remained strong.
“My commitment to creative empowerment remains strong,” he stated, pledging to continue supporting content creators through skills development, mentorship and opportunities aimed at promoting sustainable livelihoods in Kenya’s creative economy.
However, shortly after his announcement, DCCAK issued a statement clarifying that Terence had not simply resigned but had been suspended from the association on May 2, 2026, following allegations made against him.
In the statement shared on social media, the association said it had yet to receive an official update on the status or outcome of the allegations.
"Lawrence Mwangi, popularly known as Terence Creative, was suspended from the Association on 2nd May following allegations of rape made against him by a young lady in connection with an incident at a massage parlor in Kiambu County."
"To date, DCCAK has not received any official update on the status or resolution of the rape allegations. The Association takes matters of this nature seriously and remains committed to upholding integrity, accountability and professionalism.”
The association had communicated its decision in a letter dated May 2026, seen by TNX Africa, citing concerns about its integrity, reputation and operations.
The letter indicated that the suspension was a precautionary administrative measure pending the conclusion of investigations by the relevant criminal justice agencies.
"This decision follows recent allegations circulating on social media platforms and the understanding that the matter is currently under active investigation by the relevant criminal justice agencies.
Given the sensitivity of these developments and the imperative to safeguard the integrity, reputation, and operations of the Association, the Board has deemed it necessary to take this precautionary administrative action pending the conclusion of due process,” the letter said.
Terence has yet to publicly address the association’s latest statement. His resignation announcement remains on his social media platforms.
