SON: Tough, she is such a difficult woman. I told her I want
a submissive wife when we were courting, she is not submissive.
DAD: Where did you get the idea that a wife ought to be
submissive?
SON: Come on dad! Isn't that obvious? From the Bible. Mom

DAD: Now that you have mentioned the Bible, have you
submitted to God?
SON: This is not about me, this about my wife who doesn't
submit.
DAD: This has everything to do with you, have you submitted
to God? How is your relationship with God?
SON: Me and God are good…
DAD: Are you really good?
SON: I can't lie. Not really. I have drifted far from God.
DAD: So God loves you perfectly but you don't submit to God,
yet you love your wife imperfectly and are angry that you feel she doesn't
submit to you?
SON: What does my submission to God have to do with my
wife's submission?
DAD: Before I answer, do you think God is pleased by how you
treat your wife?
SON: No one is perfect.
DAD: I didn't ask if you were perfect, I just asked if God
is pleased?
SON: To be honest, no! I shout at her, I demean her, I order
her around, I disrespect her even in public. But she makes me mad when she does
not submit.
DAD: You cannot force a woman to submit. When you submit to
God, God will work on you and you will become a loving, caring, gentle,
inspiring husband. Once you become that husband, your wife will find it natural
to submit to you because her submission is led by your submission to God. When
you don't submit to God, you can easily become self centred, proud, insensitive
and domineering. This might turn your wife from being submissive to protective,
where she feels a need to protect herself from you. She is not supposed to
submit to mistreatment. A loved up woman submits to love.
SON: I never saw it that way.
DAD: I didn't see it that way until many years in marriage
to your mother. Learn this truth early, it will save you and your wife a lot of
stress. God wants to give you a peaceful marriage, submit to God.
SON: I will. I will submit to God. Before I ask if my wife
submits to me, I will ask myself if I have submitted to God.
