President Uhuru and Collymore in December 2015.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has led Kenyans in mourning demised Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore.

The 61-year-old British national passed away on July 1 at his Nairobi home following a prolonged battle with cancer.

Through the official state house page, President Uhuru termed Collymore a ‘distinguished corporate leader’ who will be missed.

"It is with deep sadness that I have this morning received news of the death of Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore after years of battling cancer. As a country, we've lost a distinguished corporate leader whose contribution to our national wellbeing will be missed" ~ H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta — State House Kenya (@StateHouseKenya) July 1, 2019

Kenyans from all spheres of life paid tribute to Collymore:

My condolences go out to the friends and family of Mr Bob Collymore as well as the entire Safaricom fraternity.
Bob served our country with dedication and sustained us as a communication hub in Africa. May his soul rest in eternal peace. — Raila Odinga (@RailaOdinga) July 1, 2019

Although I wasn’t one of the lucky people who got to interact with him often, on the few occasions that I did, Bob Collymore left something in me. Something to think about, to aspire to. We took this picture after I’d moderated a Heroes for Change session in 2017, a few months after I’d resigned as a News Anchor and he said, ‘Don’t ever feel the need to choose between motherhood and work. You shouldn’t have to. I think companies should continue to allow new mothers a chance at both by creating the right environment for them’. A progressive thinker. What a sad day indeed. #RIPBobCollymore. Condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
