Why a cook blew up a gas cylinder by plugging off the pipes near a burning jiko endangering customers and his colleagues, remains a mystery to city detectives.
Maurice Okello, who appeared in court, was charged with recklessness and negligence while on duty.
Further, he was accused of endangering the lives of Betty Mutinda, Gerald Gikenya, Angela Bahati, Jacinta Matiiri and Khadija Abdul.
He allegedly committed the offence on March 9 at a hotel along Duruma Road.

According to police, Okello plugged a pipe connected to a gas cylinder, which was near a charcoal jiko, causing the burning down of the entire hotel.
Two customers succumbed to their injuries. Okello denied the charges.
The case will be mentioned on March 25.
