Mandela’s death has touched not only the hearts of Nairobians but also changed their fortunes.
City boutiques have made good profits from the sale of T-shirts branded with the portrait of the former South African President Nelson Mandela.
The demand for the T-shirts shot up following the announcement of his death on December 6.
Many boutiques were by the eve of Jamhuri Day out of stock, according to Rose Muiya, a boutique owner in the city.
Initially, the T-shirts sold for between Sh500 and Sh800 at her shop on Tom Mboya Street but high demand forced her to charge Sh1,000.
