The Lord of the Rings new TV series is on the lookout to cast 'funky' and 'unusual'-looking people in New Zealand.

BGT Actors Models & Talent released the bizarre casting call ahead of the highly-anticipated upcoming show, which is set to be an Amazon Prime original.

The company are looking for interesting extras to become stars and are looking to use those with unusual facial or body features for some of the shots.

A Facebook post by the talent agency states they are looking for people who may have a "bulbous or interesting" nose in the Auckland area only.

The "urgent casting" states that the applicants must have some sort of "facial burns, long skinny limbs, deep cheekbones, acne scars, ears that stick out, small eyes, big eyes, any deformities, skinny faces [or] missing limbs".

They are urging people between 18 and 65, male and female, to come forward for a chance to star in the series.

No particular role is mentioned, but the Guardian reported that an earlier image has been deleted off a range of police mugshots to highlight what the agency are seeking.

According to the outlet, the booker who wrote the social media post said she was not allowed to confirm she was specifically selecting applicants for the Amazon TV series.

But it's reported that an earlier version of the post described her as "lead booker submitting talent for Amazon's Lord Of The Rings".

However, any mention of the series was later taken out of the post.

Underneath the encouraging advert, a statement reads: "Want to be famous in New Zealand :-)."

On March 17, Amazon Prime announced it was closing production on the upcoming series in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The forced closure came one month after the series started filming.

It's reported by Indie Wire that the anticipated air date will be 2021 as production came to a halt, but there should be no major delays.
