Barely a day to the deadline of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination marking set to end on Thursday, December 12, 2019, questions have been raised about the process.
The marking process started a day after students sat for the last KCSE paper and by the set deadline will have lasted for two weeks.
The KCSE exams were concluded on November 27, 2019, and a total of 699,745 students sat for the exams.
The total number of examiners tasked with the marking of the scripts was 26,597.

What captured the attention of many social media users was the speed with which the process was conducted despite the hurdles along the way.
Others argued about the ratio between the examination papers and the markers, this was considering that some subjects contain two or three papers, that is, Physics Paper 1, 2, and 3.
“Do they want to mean that the downing of tools by markers different centers did not affect the timeline for exam marking and release” asked Martha Susysusy.

On December 4, 2019, markers in two marking centers, Machakos Girls School and Starehe Girls Centre downed their tools to protest low pay.
The disagreement between the markers and the Kenya National Examinations council was, however, calmed and the process resumed.
