The administration of Starehe Girls Centre on Tuesday confirmed the outbreak of an unknown disease within the institution.
According to a statement seen by Ureport, symptoms reported by students included high-pitched cough, sneezing and low-grade fever.
The statement added that 52 students have been isolated for observation within the school and samples have been obtained for further tests.
Further, the school maintained that it is working with the Ministry of Health and the Ruaraka Sub-county health team to ascertain the cause.

“We are currently working with the National Government Ministry of Health, Department of Integrated Disease Surveillance Response (IDSR) and the sub-county Health team as well as volunteer doctors from the Old Starehian Society to ascertain the cause and contain the situation” read the statement.
It also indicated that parents of those affected had been notified of the incident and the school is working tirelessly to monitor and stabilise the situation.
“We would like to assure the students, parents and the general public that we are working round the clock to monitor and stabilise the situation,” added the statement.
Dr Martin Osumba, the lead Public Health Specialist on the ground, said that over the past seven days, each cohort has been monitored and there is no cause for alarm.
