The new-found working relationship between Opposition chief Raila Odinga and his political nemesis Raphael Tuju is sending jitters in Siaya County.
The appearance of the duo in a public function together over the week, is said to have caused sleepless nights to some politicians from the area who had expressed interest in the gubernatorial seat.
Two current serving legislators from the region and a former MP were considered as formidable candidates for the seat, which will fall vacant in 2022 after the incumbent governor completes his mandatory two terms.
Over the weekend, a handler of one of the gubernatorial hopefuls was overheard regretting that with the entry of Tuju in the race, then his boss ambitions will go up in smoke.
“Tuju is no push-over, with the hand-shake and his past development record, he has a head-start,” said the aide.
