NASA supporters attack, rob police officer in Naivasha

A group of National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters attacked and robbed a police officer along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway on Friday, February 2. 

According to an article published on The Standard Digital website on Friday, February 2, the sergeant lost his mobile phone, swagger cane and beret right before he was recused by members of the public.

More than 300 NASA supporters were commuting back to Kisumu from Nairobi in mini-buses and as soon as the police officer stopped one of the buses, he was ferociously beaten up by the supporters.

The officer’s colleagues, who were not armed at the time, watched on as one of them got beat up by the supporters.

“The officer directed that the bus be driven to Naivasha police station and this is where the problem started as passengers who were singing in the bus moved out,” said James Mwai, an eyewitness.

According to Mwai, all six officers working on the highway were unarmed and as soon as one of them flagged down one bus, angry supporters took matters into their own hands.

The police officer was rescued by other passengers and matatu operators.

Naivasha sub-county commissioner Isaac Masinde confirmed that the officer had slight injuries and has been discharged after treatment.

He then said that those responsible will be charged with robbery and violence and that they would investigate the bus driver.
