Commission (IEBC) official Abdi Guliye during his speech at the Bomas of Kenya
on 28 October explained why there are results from Kisumu County on the IEBC
website yet the area is one of the places where the repeat presidential
elections did not take place.
“The issue of Kisumu West transmitting,
yes, there are two constituencies in the mentioned counties where voting has
been suspended, where actually in some polling stations elections took place,
and one of these is Kisumu west and another in Muhoroni. So for those polling stations
where there was voting, there will be valid transmissions, “said Abdi Guliye.
Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and Siaya counties had been reported to be the most affected areas in the region during the period of voting. IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati scheduled the repeat elections to take place in the counties on Saturday 28, but postponed citing violence. The residents from the four counties however said that they will not participate in any election since National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga asked them to boycott the election.
Still at Bomas, the IEBC Chair elaborated on his earlier estimation of the voter turnout.
“Let me put it as simple English as possible. We were receiving the forms as they were coming in and we also tabulating the figures as the forms were coming in. So I can give you the exact figure as at that time… based on the forms that have been received, we are going to give you the exact figure of the total turn out,” said Chebukati.
