Amani Coalition leader Musalia Mudavadi has asked the church to stop preaching to its flock that acquiring wealth is a sin.
Mudavadi was speaking during a church ceremony held at African Divine Church (ADC) in Vihiga County.
“The church should not tell people that acquiring wealth is sin. This kind of Gospel makes people dependent on others, which is against the scriptures. The Church ought to stop glorifying poverty,” he said, clarifying that wealth acquired in the right manner should not make any Christian feel guilty.
Mudavadi emphasised that churches need to uphold righteousness and shouldn’t set up many splinter churches.
“A sub-location can have as many as 40 churches each competing for a population of 5,000. This may not be a bad thing because it shows we love God and freely exercise freedom of association and worship. But why has the intensity of immorality increased in the country despite the extraordinary growth of many splinter churches?” he posed.
