Standard Group cartoonist Paul Kelemba popularly known as Maddo made history by becoming the first one to be awarded the prestigious CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Award winner in infrastructure category.
Maddo was humbled at the ceremony which celebrates Africa's best journalism for his content which caricatured sorting out Nairobi's traffic mess.
Maddo was joined by retired Standard Reporter Kiundu Waweru among Kenya's five finalists who included Baraka FM'S George Otieno with a story on prostate cancer.
NTV's duo Enock Sikolia and cameraman Charles Kariuki won the he lath category with a brilliantly executed piece on a unique disease of Esteoporosis which is causing paralysis among Turkana residents due to brittle bones because of fluorine.
Maddo's prize was the best in infrastructure category. His nomination had caused excitement among cartoonists who hailed the recognition of their work for the first time in 20 years.
