Jack Oluoch, 23, is perplexed at how the word “password” has turned him into an online sensation.
Oluoch, who hails from Homa Bay County, has been trending since he uttered the words during a TV interview as ODM primaries went on.
“I did not know the word “password” could make me famous,” Jack who is now also known as Password told The Nairobian.
Oluoch gained fame on April 14 during ODM primaries when he quipped: “Kwani hiyo password inakuja na gari (Is that password coming by vehicle)?”
He uttered the words at Shauri Yako Primary school in Homa Bay town where he had gone to vote to show his displeasure with hitches in the exercise.
That day, Oluoch left his house at 5 am and arrived at the polling station at 6 am. He expected the voting exercise to begin at 6 am or 6.30 am.
But ODM officials who were to preside over the nominations arrived at the polling centre late, at about 9 am.
Instead of starting the voting exercise, the election officials said voting could not start due to the lack of a password which would unlock the biometric voting kit.
Every voter who questioned why people were not voting was told that there was no password for the biometric machine. They waited until the media crew arrived at the polling station.
During the interview, Oluoch stood behind the interviewer, muted but clearly enraged. He kept saying “Password” with increasing irritation until the interview ended. Since that time, the video has been shared countless times, and he has ascended to meme status.
Oluoch said he uttered the words to express tribulations voters were undergoing.
