Meru, Kenya: Three police officers were arraigned in a Meru court for soliciting bribes in order to release motorcycles.
Constables Job Nyaberi, Job Kendagor and Corporal Maclin Mwakale, appeared before Principal Magistrate Charles Kutwa, to answer to charges of soliciting, receiving and handling money obtained through false pretence.
Nyaberi was charged that on May 13, he solicited for Sh2,000 from Aucelia Kaimenyi in order to release a motorcycle stored at Githongo Police Post in Imenti Central Sub County.
He faced another count of soliciting for and receiving Sh5,000 as an inducement from Alex Muthomi to release the said motorcycle that was detained at the police station.
Mwakale was charged that on May 14, he handled Sh5,000 acquired by Nyaberi through false pretence. Kendagor was charged jointly with the two for obtaining Sh14,850 by false pretence.

They denied the charges and were each released on Sh100,000 bond until June 4, when the case will be mentioned.
