NAIROBI: A University of Kabianga (UoK) student stabbed his girlfriend to death with a kitchen knife over alleged claims of cheating.
The incident, which took place in the ladies hostel within the university compound, involved 21-year-old Daniel Wanyama and Edith Masengele, who was his age mate. According to a student who witnessed the incident, Wanyama pounced on Masengele in her room at around 7am.
According to Alfred Chuchu, the student union chairman, Wanyama went to Masengele’s room but she refused to open for him.
“But after several minutes of pleading with her, she opened and an argument ensued culminating in the killing,” said Mr Chuchu.
The witness said the suspect had concealed the murder weapon in his backpack. The student died at Kericho District Hospital.

The suspect fled the scene but university security officers responded to distress calls.
He added that a suicide note was recovered in Wanyama’s pocket and a bottle of a lethal pesticide, which he intended to use to commit suicide.
Another student said the two had been in a relationship since 2003.
