A retired Kenya Defence Forces soldier and his son have been shot dead and their car razed by unknown assailants at Arabal in Marigat, Baringo County on Sunday.

Peter Kokoon Todokin, a renown sniper and his two children (a boy and a girl), were on their way to Loruk from Mochongoi when they were attacked, witnesses said. The girl was spared.

The incident has sparked tension in Kasiela, Arabal and Kapindasum villages as locals fear for a retaliatory attack.

Baringo County Administration Police Commandant Elisha Odhiambo said the incident is believed to be a retaliatory attack after over 1,000 cattle were stolen from Arabal Barley a week ago.

"Assailants suspected to be from Arabal ambushed the man said to be a retired army man from Pokot, shooting and killing him together with son as the girl escaped," said Odhiambo.

The girl reported the incident to the AP camp. The bodies of the two were taken to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital mortuary.

"I learnt of the brutal killing of Peter Kokon and his son at Kasiela with shock and disbelieve. This and other happenings leading to the senseless loss of life are to say the least disturbing and unacceptable," said Area Governor Benjamin Cheboi.
