Rongai, Kenya: A 33-year-old man killed his wife and later committed suicide by hanging himself in Lomolo village, Rongai sub-county.
Rongai police boss Joseph Mwamburi said the deceased, Isaac Kiplagat, went to his mother in-law's home where his wife Jelimo Cheruiyot, 25, has been staying after they separated.
"The deceased went to his in-laws' home, a few kilometres from his home at around 4pm, saying he wanted to talk to his wife. He found her in the main room and attacked her with a panga," said Mwamburi.
Mwamburi said efforts by family members to save the young woman were not fruitful as he threatened to kill anyone who approached him.
He then set his mother-in-law's house on fire, destroying property of unknown value.

Neighbours who heard the woman's cries for help rushed to the scene and found the woman dead. Kiplagat disappeared to a nearby bush, where he hanged himself.
The two are said to have separated after a domestic disagreement and that the husband has been trying to convince the woman to go back without success.
