Aga Khan Academy retained its crown with a dominant show during the Coast Junior Swimming Championships, which ended on Sunday.

The school successfully defended its title to become the top boys and girls champions as well as the overall winners.

To be crowned the 2018 champions, Aga Khan Academy bagged 505 points, beating their closest opponents, Bandari Swim Club, to second position with 343.50 points. Oshwal Academy, Mombasa, were third with 268 points as Nyali Primary School (205.50) settled for the fourth slot.

Others were Braeburn Mombasa International School (104), Light Academy, Mombasa (76), Tudor Swim Club (54), Dolphins (42), Aga Khan Primary (27), Blue Ocean (26), individual swimmers (23), Mombasa Aquatics (18), while Octopus were bottom-placed with two points.

In boys overall, Aga Khan Academy led the way with 234 points, with Bandari club and Nyali Primary School bagging 218.50 and 138.50 points respectively as Oshwal Academy occupied the fourth position with 129 points.

Others were Dolphins (42), Braeburn (38), Aga Khan Primary (25), Tudor (22), Light Academy, Mombasa (21), Blue Ocean (three), and Octopus had two points.

In girls overall, Aga Khan Academy once again showed the way to lead with 271 points with Oshwal Academy and Bandari following in that order after bagging 139 and 125 points respectively. Nyali Primary and Braeburn amassed 67 and 66 points respectively. The rest were Light Academy, Mombasa (55), Tudor (32), individual swimmers and Blue Ocean (tied on 23 points), Mombasa Aquatics (18), while Aga Khan Primary trailed with two points.

Aga Khan Academy won both the boys and girls 11 years 200m freestyle relays. In boys, the team of Aker Mutinda, Eddie Odhiambo, Sathyam Gohil, and Ivan Hart clocked 2:29.14 for a gold medal. In girls, Yaana Mbugua, Jaman Abass, Sanaa Gulamhussein, and Tugi Mwige timed 3:13.14 for the win.

Bandari’s Adam Abdulmalik, Hamud Abeid, Mohammed Abdulrahim, and Kitendo Salim won the boys’ 10 years 200m freestyle with a time of 2:33.49. In the same category for girls, the Nyali Primary team of Amy Weloba, Lindsey Nduta, Everlyne Wambugu, and Lindya Atieno won in a time of 3:03.67
