Ford people’s candidate Manson Nyamweya Oyongo led in the South Mugirango provisional results relayed via test run electronic transmission system.

Oyongo was followed by PDP’s Omingo Magara while ODM’s Ibrahim Ochoi came a distant third as results trickled in.

The hotly contested polls also saw Kanu’s John Ondora ganner†562, Rashid Miyonga of

progressive party 105, Masta Bwondara 43, Abaga Sagero of NVP 39 and Ezekiel Okengo 32.

And by†9pm,†Oyongo had raced further to 6,548, Magara 4368, Ochoi, 3310, Ezekiel Okemwa (Kenda) 722 and Robert Mbaka (Safina) 113.

This is the first time the Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) was relaying election results live via electronic device.

The e- system on test run†by IIEC comes in the wake of the launch of nationwide fibre optics network.

IIEC may adopt the system if it proves effective, according to the Chief executive officer

James Oswago, who spoke to the Standard in an interview.

Lands minister James Orengo (ODM) caused a stir in the hall when he rejected the provisional

results displayed by the IIEC.

He said the IIEC was sending wrong signals because the media was relying on the provisional results and that was likely to mislead the public.

The Minister asked the returning officer Mr Bonventure†Obongoya to post actual results

and not provisional ones.

Fisheries minister Paul Otuoma also denounced the results displayed by IIEC saying they were misleading.
