Thola Glass have emerged champions of this year’s Kenya Football Federation (KFF) Nairobi Branch Super League.
Thola Glass won the hotly-contested league in style as they tied 1-1 with archrivals and title challengers Dandora SID in a decisive match on Saturday.
Both teams entered the match with the same points and a win for either could have sealed the title.
Seven starts
Thola Glass opened the scores in the 50th minute through Anthony Mwangi, but SID replied with ten minutes to time but it was too little too late as they ended up losing the title on goal difference.
They both ended the league on 81 points. However, Thola Glass emerged champions on a superior goal difference.
Both teams are, however, expected to earn promotion to the KFF Nationwide League next season. In other matches, Korogocho Youth, who had been leading the league for the better part of the season before tumbling, piped Leviticus 2-0 to also end the season with 81 points, but with an inferior goal difference compared to the top two.
"This shows how competitive the league was. For the top the teams to tie on points and be separated by goal difference, just depicts the level of competitiveness in the league," said an elated branch chairman, Simon Mugo.
Kangemi Youth shocked Kariobangi Sharks 2-0, while Uprising FC defeated Mukuru Sports 2-0 as Melta Kabira stopped Ruai FC 2-0 in other matches.
