The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Central Rift branch plans to reconstitute sub-branches.

Branch secretary Wafula Wamusamia said the changes are aimed at efficient co-ordination, organisation and administration of volleyball.

"The Central Rift office intends to spread the game to the locals with a view to identifying and tapping talent in rural areas," he said.

The sub-branches to be reconstituted are: Nakuru Municipality, Naivasha, Samburu, Baringo, Koibatek, Kajiado Narok, Laikipia, Njoro, Olenguruone, Turkana and Molo.

Wamusamia said the reconstitution would be based on re-grouping of teams, preferably according to the provincial administrative boundaries or geographical proximity.

"The changes would be based on resolutions made during the annual general meeting (AGM) set for Nakuru later this month," the official said.

He said reconstitution was necessary, especially after post-election violence, mostly affecting parts of the branch and leaving teams scattered. Most of the playing grounds were used as IDP camps, but have since been vacated.

Wamusamia, who is also the chairman of KVF constitution review committee, said that his team had finalised amendment of the constitution as directed by the AGM and forwarded the draft constitution to the National Executive Committee for further scrutiny and direction.

Draft constitution

He said the draft constitution has been made in accordance to the statutes of International Volleyball Board (FIVB) and the requirements of stakeholders, the affiliate clubs.

The Central Rift official said the draft would be discussed at a workshop and approved by the A GM.

"The AGM is the body that governs the federation as per the provisions of article 5.2.1 of the current constitution," he said.

The national office has issued a notice for the AGM that set for Coca Cola National Stadium on May 23.

"It was the interest of the review committee to have the constitution registered before elections due next year," he said.

Wamusamia urged Central Rift branch members to update their membership records with the national treasurer to avoid being locked out in decisive organs of the federation in future.

"The proposed constitution does not encourage non-members to participate in the affairs of the federation," he concluded.
